The importance of having a will can so often be overlooked. Dying with no will (known as dying intestate) means that those you had hoped would inherit from you, may actually lose out. This can be very distressing for the family you leave behind. It is also much more complex for the family you leave behind to finalise everything if no will has been written. Other problems could mean unmarried partners may lose their right to live in your home. Also what if you die whilst you still have children under the age of 16? Who will look after them?
If you have not made provision in your will and clearly specified who the guardians of your children are to be then people you would not have chosen could end up looking after the kids. In some extreme cases it could even result in children perhaps being looked after by social services. Don't risk such things happening-a simple will can help ensure your wishes are followed if you are no longer here
